Officer Tara O'Sullivan 3D explainer
Officer Tara O'Sullivan's death was one of 2019's biggest news stories in Sacramento. Working within the time limitations of a breaking news cycle, my team at McClatchy's New Ventures Lab recreated the scene from a combination of scanner audio, drone footage and Google Maps data.
I directed the animation, wrote the script and copy and helped create a project management system that combined tenants of Agile with traditional documentary production for the project.
Camp Fire 3D map
One year after the Camp Fire devastated northern California, my team at McClatchy's New Ventures Lab took NASA FIRMS satellite data and projected it over a 3D map of the area.
